Monster Bark

I have a special place in my heart for candy corn.  To me, it's a sign of hope. See, my husband left for a year long deployment to Iraq in October 2009.  It was a LONG year and I thought it would never end. In Aug 2010, I saw Halloween candy in the grocerey store. I almost cried. It meant it was nearly October and that my love would soon be home.  I bought a bag to take home and left with a little more pep in my step.

This might not be the first (or last) bag of candy corn I've bought this autumn, but it might be my new favorite way to enjoy it!

May I introduce you to: MONSTER BARK.

Just three ingredients: oreos, candy corn and white chocolate.

Begin by chopping up Oreos and placing on wax paper.

Cover with melted white chocolate (just spoon it over and spread out a little).

Top with candy corn (I pressed it in just a bit).

Throw it into the fridge to harden up and then break into pieces.

Tips & Tricks:
- I used only half of the candy coasting, half the Oreos and a few handfuls of the good stuff (candy corn).
- White chocolate is a bit tricky sometimes. I chopped it, put it in a DRY plastic bowl (must be plastic, and cannot have a DROP of water in it) and microwaved it for 30 sec, stirred, microwaved 15 sec, stirred and kept repeating at 15 seconds until silky smooth.
- I have also have seen variations of this recipe where the top with sprinkles or add pretzels, peanuts, raisins, M&Ms or Reese Pieces.  Personally, I stuck with what I knew to be good but you could really monster it up with all of the above.

Here is little man taste-testing the ingredients. Looks like the Oreos passed!
